Comfort Music

I'm so tired. On average, I'm working about 100 hours per week. I'm here at the office at 6am and usually don't leave until 10pm at night. That is the schedule Monday through Friday. On the weekends we take it a little easier and only work about 12 hours per day.

When I get this tired I tend to get a little cranky. One of the things I can't afford to do here is actually be cranky, so I have to find a way to keep the nasty at bay. A surefire way to do that with me is with music. Music calms the savage beast and Michelle's emotional roller coaster.

For the past two days I have had all five CDs from the Ray Charles "Genius and Soul" series on random repeat. I was doing all holiday music all the time but quickly got sick of that. No, Ray and I have an understanding. He sings like the incredible artist he is, I listen and start to feel better. It is the perfect relationship.

I can't honestly tell you why I find this set of music so comforting. It could be the wonderful old songs about love and pain and everything else. It could be his amazing voice. It could be the amazing musicians. It could be an amalgam of all of those things. I listen and within a few minutes I am tapping my foot and just feeling a little bit sunnier. Even listening to songs like "Drown In My Own Tears" or "One Of These Days", I can't help but feel a lovely sense of calm.

Comfort music is better than comfort macaroni and cheese, right?
