F is for Freedom

freedom - n.

The condition of being free of restraints.
Liberty of the person from slavery, detention, or oppression.

Political independence.
Exemption from the arbitrary exercise of authority in the performance of a specific action; civil liberty: freedom of assembly.
Exemption from an unpleasant or onerous condition: freedom from want.
The capacity to exercise choice; free will: We have the freedom to do as we please all afternoon.
Ease or facility of movement: loose sports clothing, giving the wearer freedom.
Frankness or boldness; lack of modesty or reserve: the new freedom in movies and novels.

The right to unrestricted use; full access: was given the freedom of their research facilities.
The right of enjoying all of the privileges of membership or citizenship: the freedom of the city.
A right or the power to engage in certain actions without control or interference: “the seductive freedoms and excesses of the picaresque form” (John W. Aldridge).

It seems appropriate on this specific date to discuss Freedom. Sixty years ago men were fighting for something that everyone believed in. I don't care how many times he tries...our president will never make me believe that this war is anything like WWII. Anyway, here are some thoughts from actual soldiers who were in that war...

"...you go on about your business, with a little more emptiness inside, a little more tiredness, a little more hatred of everything concerning war." - John

As one of the 'doughfeet' put it, "I may not get the Purple Heart for being wounded but if they give them out for being scared as hell I certainly rate one," and that's no kiddin'... - Carl

They teach men, feed them, protect them, and lead them sooner or later into the jaws of a hell that is the bloodiest, dirtiest, most vicious kind of murder that man, with all his machines, has been able to devise. - Whitney

I think it is the last quote that really touched me. He was talking about Non-commissioned officers...NCOs...something my husband is.

I am so incredibly proud of him. I don't think words can ever adequately express the pride I have just being married to him. He always steps up to the plate and does what is expected. He does it just because it is his job, because he believes in his job. He does his job knowing that he's shaping those that will eventually replace him. He does his job damn well.

I love you honey.
